Andrew Carnegie emigrated from Scotland to the United States in 1848 at the age of 13.

Anthony Lukas Book Prize, the Ambassador Book Prize for Biography, and finalist for the National Book Critics Circle Award. He is currently a distinguished professor of history and Director for the Humanities at the City University of New York Graduate Center.
