Lillooet Stories
Gordon E Whitney spent his boyhood in Lillooet, B.C. in the 1930s. Originally established because of the Cariboo Gold Rush, Lillooet was still very much a frontier town. The local elite, known as “the pioneers,” ran the town their way. With his family struggling on relief, young Gordon learns to fend for himself and to create his own entertainment. Being several years younger than most of his classmates, he developed a friendship with his mentor, Tom Manson, and masters the art of trout fishing. The stories in this collection tell of the neighbours he came to know and the events he witnessed between the ages of 5 and 14. His memoirs of Lillooet and its colourful townspeople are complemented by his rich, detailed s of the rugged, breathtaking geography of the south Cariboo of Pages: 288Dimensions: 0.6 x 8.5 x 5.51 INPublication Date: June 04, 2020
